Rietumu Bank supports the 4th Riga International Fantasy Film Festival held from 27 February to 8 March as part of the famous cinema forum “Arsenal”. The Bank has been sponsoring “Arsenal” for four years – since the forum’s inception.
Fantasy Film Festival is held once in two years and showcases the newest movies produced in various countries all over the world – science fiction, thrillers, horror, etc.
The festival basically focused on science fiction and mystique in preceding years, but this time horror movies “have taken the lead”. Alongside with modern movies in the genre, the audience can enjoy classics: the festival will showcase the iconic “Alien”, already celebrating its 30th anniversary, and “Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka” by Nikolai Vasilievich Gogol.
The Canadian-American silent movie “Brand Upon the Brain” opened the festival. Produced by Guy Maddin, it reflects childhood memories of the author.
International judges, such as the founder of Swedish Fantasy Film Festival Magnus Paulson, the programme coordinator of Fantasy Film Festival in Hungary Kata Anna Varo and the Latvian film producer David Simanis, appraise the movies.
