A new advertising video clip of Rietumu Bank where the famous Spidola plays the main part was demonstrated at the vernissage.
“The idea of this exhibition arose in the process of working on a new advertising video for Rietumu Bank, which will soon start to be shown on leading Russian TV channels “Russia 24” and “RTR Planet”,” says the Member of the Council of Rietumu Bank Alexander Gafin. “This is a quite unusual video for bank advertising, with its special mood, colour and sound scheme, which looks different among a standard range of creative marketing products
The new video causes an emotional reaction rather than a rational one, not just with regards to Rietumu Bank, but primarily with regards to Jurmala and its nature. When we were thinking about it – how the mood could be transferred with the help of a video, all of a sudden our famous Spidola was chosen as the main character.”
As is popularly known, Spidola radio, a legend of the 60s-70s, was competing very well in that period with similar international brands, and it was distinguished not only for its excellent technical features but also for its effective and original design.
Along with Spidola, the video contains the sea, the sun, the beach, the melody of Vladimir Kuzmin’s song “Simona” and even the voice of Laima Vaikule. In brief, everything the Gulf of Riga and the elegant Baltic style are associated with for the majority of residents of Moscow and Saint Petersburg,” noted Mr Gafin at the exhibition opening.
The exposition presents items from the Riga Technical University Museum and the Radio Museum, as well as private collections, about 50 exhibits in total.
The exhibition will present items manufactured in different periods, starting from the 1940s, which allows the restoration of a vivid dynamic picture of transformation of their external appearance, following the success of technological advances, the evolution of tastes and fashion, changing tendencies in applied design, public preferences and tastes.
Visitors of the exhibition will be able to see devices of different epochs and for various uses – from compact and portable valve and transistor receivers up to office and household radios, as well as exclusive equipment of luxury class. The most successful and famous examples of the Latvian radio industry are items and lines such as Rigonda, Festival, Riga, etc. A separate section of the exposition is dedicated to the legendary Spidola, which was released in different modifications starting from the 60s and the 90s.
Riga radios, as a rule, were distinguished not only for their successful design and high quality of manufacturing, but also for their excellent look. To produce the cases of the luxury line devices, valuable wood species, high quality fabrics, non-ferrous metals, ebonite and the first types of plastic were used. An especially elegant design was chosen for compact models, and models intended for export or special orders were performed in different colours.
Riga radios were well-known and popular not only in the USSR territory, but also internationally – they crossed the ocean in a boat of a circumnavigator, and were even at the North Pole and in other most distant parts of the world.
Rietumu Bank is recognised both in Latvia and abroad for its support of different projects in the field of art and cultural cooperation between Russia and Latvia in general. For a number of years the bank has been a partner of the “Golden Mask” festival in Latvia. In recent years it has sponsored guest tours of theatres and musical bands of Russia in Riga and of the Latvian National Opera and Latvian National Theatre in Moscow, supported the exhibition of Carl Faberge works from Russian state collections in Riga, the exhibition of the modern photo artist Janis Krumins in Saint Petersburg and other projects as well.
