Lauris Darzins, captain of the Latvian national team that successfully performed at the recent Ice Hockey World Championship in Slovakia, was recognised as the best ice hockey player of the country. The participation of the Latvian team in this tournament was supported by Rietumu Bank.
«Gada balva hokejā» is a new annual award initiated by the Latvian Ice Hockey Federation.
The awards were presented in 12 categories, including the best coaches of adult players, children, youth; the best judge; the best hockey journalist; the best ice stadium, etc.
Valentin Bluger, Member of the Council of the Bank and Member of the Board of the Latvian Ice Hockey Federation, represented Rietumu Bank at the awards ceremony.
The preliminary selection of «Gada balva hokejā» winners took place in the course of anonymous online voting. The final list of prize-winners was determined by members of the Board, committees and by other members of the Latvian Ice Hockey Federation, by representatives of the teams of the Optibet Hockey League, as well as by members of the teams of the Latvian Children and Youth Hockey League Championship.
In the future, the «Gada balva hokejā» prizes will be awarded annually.
