Last Friday, the winners received awards at the solemn reception in Riga Castle in the presence of the President of Latvia Raimonds Vejonis and his spouse, the patroness of the campaign Iveta Vejone.
The nurses were also congratulated by the campaign organisers - Chairperson of the Board of the Rietumu Charity Fund Inga Shina and Chairman of the Board of Diena Publishers Edgars Kots, as well as the heads of hospitals. The best nurses received cash bonuses from the Rietumu Charity Fund in the amount of EUR 1000 (before taxes) each.
The patroness of the campaign Iveta Vejone, being proud of the winners, emphasised, “Medical nurses in the entire of Latvia take care of the most important things on a daily basis - health and life of our residents - children and adults. In the situation where patients or relatives are experiencing pain, anxiety and uncertainty, it is extremely important to obtain professional information, assistance and encouragement. I would like to express my gratitude to every nurse of this country! Your daily work is very important for the present and future of Latvia, both in big state hospitals and regional ones. Thank you very much for your selfless work for the benefit of patients!”
Inga Shina, Chairperson of the Board of the Rietumu Charity Fund, also noted the importance of the work of medical nurses. “I would like to wish that you retain all of the remarkable qualities we read about in the references of your patients. I hope very much that the situation with the shortage of medical staff in this country will improve and that with our campaign we will bring our contribution, though small but important, to it. We will continue this campaign, as we see how important it is for you - there can never be too many words of gratitude! We will gladly continue to support other healthcare-related projects as well, and will attract the attention of society to important things that remain undervalued at times.”
The campaign was held from 19 September to 30 November this year with the participation of medical nurses from all departments of the following three clinical hospitals - the Pauls Stradins Clinical University Hospital, Riga East Clinical University Hospital and the Children's Clinical University Hospital. By celebrating the tenth anniversary of this campaign, its organisers - the Rietumu Charity Fund, in cooperation with the patroness of the campaign Iveta Vejone and the Diena newspaper, aimed to emphasise the special importance of the nursing profession and remind society of the responsibility shouldered by the staff of these hospitals.
During the campaign, any of the current or former patients of the hospitals, as well as their relatives and friends, could submit an application and in this way vote for their favourite medical nurse. During the three months since the start of the campaign, 3437 applications have been received.
