Rietumu Bank sponsored opening of Russian art exhibition of the 19/20th century in the Latvian National Museum of Art.
The exhibition features canvas of outstanding Russian masters of the 19th century, including Aivazovsky, Shishkin, Repin, Surikov, Savrasov, as well as masters, who worked in the end of the 19th – beginning of the 20th century, - Konstantin Korovin, Philip Malyavin, Ilya Mashkov, Boris Kustodiev, Apollinary Vasnetsov and others. Among the soviet period authors are: Alexander Deyneka, Pyotr Kotov, Gerasimov, etc. – in total, 80 artworks of 69 authors.
The Latvian National Museum of Art’s collection is the biggest in the Baltics and the most valuable given the level and quality of the artworks. Some of these paintings were on the displays of the museum exhibitions; others were kept in storerooms. In 2007-2008, “Russian collection” had a tremendous success in Italy, where more than 20 000 people visited the themed exhibition.
Alexander Veshnyakov, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Latvia, Inga Shina, Chairman of the Board of Rietumu Bank’s Charity Fund, and Mara Lace, the director of the Latvian National Museum of Art gave a speech to the numerous audience on the exhibition opening.
The exhibition will be open until the end of March.
